'Great urban design' or 'Affront to democracy'? High-rise project in Palo Alto ignites debate over growth

Depending on whom you ask, the proposed high-rise development near the California Avenue Caltrain station is either an exemplar of smart urban planning or an affront to democracy.

There isn't a better place in Palo Alto for 382 apartments (77 of them affordable), other than maybe University Ave. NIMBY-crats can feel affronted if they want.

Yep Ivg. And I'd add, local mayors (like Palo Alto's and Los Altos former) should start to realize that we live in a democratic republic, where the people's sovereign power is vested in Two Levels (State and Federal) and not three (Local councils). If PA Mayor Kou, "for her part, is frustrated" with That, she should work (democratically) to change the California Constitution!

I'm assuming the PA Council MAJORITY is not so unwise as to follow her legal advice!

Near Fixed Transit, build high, build wise, build mixed residential.

Regardless of the view that this is beautiful or horrible, I'll bet the project is very different before it is built. This is a weird situation with a tiny grocery store chain happening to own such very valuable land in a location like this. Otherwise, Mollie Stones could not afford to operate in Palo Alto.
