Kaiser strike begins as 68,000 employees stage walkout at California hospitals

More than 75,000 Kaiser Permanente employees walked off the job this morning, Oct. 4, initiating the largest health care worker strike in U.S. history, union officials said.

Note also that all Northern California home health physical, occupational and speech therapist are part of this work action. They have been losing money due to inflation over the past two years and staffing levels have been so low at Kaiser routinely uses contracted labor to make up for the shortage. Home health therapists are busy all the time, so there is no reason for Kaiser to avoid hiring more therapists. However, they will need to increase wages so those therapist can afford to live in this area.
