I found a tick on me after a walk, within a few hours, which I carefully removed by twisting its head. My HMO doesn't recommend an antibiotic against Lyme disease until the tick has been buried for 36 hours or more.
Both my son and I habitually look for ticks at the end of grasses, but surprisingly found only two. One on me, and one on a trail. Perhaps we were too early in the season and there are more now.
Regardless, a tick hunt and a poison oak scrub-down are mandatory after every walk. It's not a big deal to do, and we're much happier as a result.
