Former Uber executive sentenced for covering up data breach

A federal judge on Thursday imposed a sentence of three years' probation on the former head of security at Uber from Palo Alto for his role in covering up a data breach that impacted more than 50 million users.

The government prosecutors were exactly right. It’s too bad that Judge Orrick could not deliver accountability to this defendant, nor make a public example of him to deter the many other people considering or engaging in white collar crime. Sad, but not surprising.
