During public comments, I brought up the serious need for more public-facing restroom facilities and water fountains or hydration stations. These are needed for the vehicle resident community but also for all of us here. The shortage sends an embarrassing message to all who live in or come to Mountain View. If we are sincere about wanting to get more people out of vehicles and on foot or on bike, we need the services to support such lifestyles. Also, this doesn't have to go in the Council workplan necessarily; giving direction to Staff to make it happen should be sufficient, although funding considerations will need to be worked out. How about let’s keep it simple…. Fix all the pot holes on El Camino that were there before the storms and now just a mine field after. Or as usual the city money is grafted to someone’s buddy of a road paving company that does 10% of the contracted work!!!

This seems a bit like putting the cart before the horse. Why does staff need to ask for this? Shouldn't the council be handing their priorities to staff?

2) "The council gave its unanimous support for the projects identified as priorities by staff. "

More weirdness. Looks like staff runs the show, not the other way around.

3) I was looking back at the promises made back during election season, "Mountain View City Council hopefuls talk housing, homelessness, bicycle safety and more" Web Link . At the time, "affordable housing and homelessness" was a key topic.

Back then, now-Mayor Hicks said "she looks forward to implementing the city’s affordable housing strategy, particularly “working with an affordable housing megabond, region-wide,” she said. “Because I really think that’s the only way we can address this problem: with large amounts of money, and regionally.”"

I agree, we need to stop relying on for-profit developers to build affordable housing at a ratio of 9 market rate units to every 1 affordable unit. That is nothing but a path to failure for "teachers, service workers, and kids who don't code". We need to find additional funding to build the 6000 affordable units that the state has mandated for MV.

From the article, it is not clear that the topic of finding additional funding to build affordable housing was even discussed as a priority at the Council meeting. I would hope that such activity would be a top priority for the next two years.
