Not a surprise that Newsom has failed to achieve yet another promise. Perhaps he's too busy traveling the country, proving that he's not really really really going to run for President in 2024? Bottom line, cities (like Mountain View) have onerous, restrictive, and costly building regulations. Cities in CA should ask developers what policies are restricting them from building. Where City's need to be sued to actually comply with state laws, that takes the responsibility of the lack of housing off his shoulders.

In effect, the cities have violated the state laws, and remember also that Costa Hawkins and Ellis Acts were designed for a "PRIVATE" industry to be responsible for providing adequate supply. The STATE is NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE for the PRIVATE housing sector.

Of course the PRIVATE sector is attempting to shift the blame. The KNEW they could NEVER make the money they wanted while providing enough supply. A DESIGNED shortage of housing inflates profits, REMEMBER?

Even WORSE forcing only luxury housing down everyone's throats at the same time. The ENITIRE state's PRIVATE housing industry wanted and di only try to sell 93 Octane gas in the state.

The fact that the Real Estate market is crumbling BECAUSE of in INEFFECIENT and FAILURES of management by the PRIVATE sector is the problem. News stories like this are just trying to shift the responsibility. I for one would like it if the state would pass more laws requiring only PUBLIC sector housing development until the situation is solved.

Obviously since this newspaper is funded by REAL ESTATE, this publication cannot claim it is not guilty of a CONFLICT OF INTEREST in this matter. Just look at the apportion of advertisements versus new articles.

Time for the blame to only be on the RIGHT people. Since the politician were forced to PRIVATIZE the entire housing market anyway since 1980s.
