Great work, MVPD. I knew there was more to this story from the beginning. May this poor child rest in peace.

What 9 year old in an apartment building can't get out to play in the common area? Was there a parent at home or is that the real issue--no one at home.

How does arresting and jailing two adults who are mourning the loss of their young relative help anyone? Why are we policing parenting choices with arrests and jailing? Could a different, more restorative approach be taken - like maybe offering parenting classes?

Also, are there other children in the home? Who will care for them and provide for them while the two adults are in jail?

This is so tragic all around. Nothing yet made public contradicts the possibility that the family members were at work on a Wednesday and left the child home alone for some time on summer vacation. Of course there may be more to it - I'm not sure what standard is used for child endangerment - but regardless, I hope the family finds peace.

It is my understanding that the family had filed a complaint against the City of Mountain View for negligence that caused the child's death 1 month or so before being charged, police informed everyone the death was an accident then suddenly the Parent is charged? Sounds like they are vilifying the family members to make them look bad or to frighten them to not sue the City.

@reporter & @Rick. "my understanding" - if there was a negligence filing against the City of Mountain View, that is a public record and the City, if asked, via the Public Records Act, must reveal the claim.
