California homeless population grew by 22,000 over pandemic

The latest point-in-time count of California's homeless population shows that it increased at roughly the same pace as previous years, although it appears to have disproportionately affected Latinos.

If you want more of something, you subsidize it. CA's $14b dwarfs NY's $2.4B state funding for homelessness, and CA's keeps growing. In SF, homelessness is a business. One approach would be to prioritize helping people who are likely to be temporarily homeless. There are many who are homeless by choice and have no interest in changing that.
