Why only 5 stories?

Y not 10? From the corner of San Antonio and El Camino (looking East) you can barely see the top of a Mountain View 10 story residential tower. Avalon Towers 4900 El Camino.

The property is under an acre and they're getting 75 units out of it. The article explains the density works out to 86 residential units per acre. There's NO grounds to suggest it be even taller than the 5 stories that are proposed. It doesn't make economic sense either because that's not a magnet location which would draw people to a 10 story tower building. Already they have 2 levels of underground parking, and they surely need parking at a location like that where the only viable transport is the automobile. People will move there for its proximity to the freeway and commute to other cities. Construction techniques become more expensive for taller buildings and the cost per unit would go up.

It's really ludicrous that the council members to speculate that a 75 unit project near 101 on San Antonio justifies a call for more bus service on San Antonio, or that it will overload that road with car traffic. The KFC/Taco Bell probably generates 10 times the car traffic as this project, and that's not even on San Antonio directly!

Building raises prices in the area. Real estate agents and investors know this.
It's funny that Mountain View supposedly cares about climate change but wants to increase its population by 30,000.
