How is it we all had 7am Band Practice, late Football Practice, but still came out just fine?
Do you get a participation trophy for going to classes now? Not being snarky, but this just feels WAAAYY over analyzed. I wish them all the luck in the world and makes their lives / stress / ?? Way better than before. We all want them to succeed and if this is the single thing (after starting school in early August, after ………..). Then cool, in favor, peace out.

It's not just start time that adds to fatigue... how about just having a regular schedule with lunch at a regular time? Currently at MVHS lunch is at 12:16-1:01 on Mondays, 11:52-12:37 Tues and Thurs, and 12:42-1:27 Weds and Friday.
On Weds and Friday kids are sitting in class hungry (low blood sugar = low energy = not able to pay attention) because they are used to eating nearly an hour earlier.
This isn't rocket science. Start at a reasonable time, have a regular schedule.

Stop pampering them and jump on their parents to give them a mandatory bedtime if they are irresponsible about sleep hours. Worked for me. Kids are coddled way too much these days.
GO TO BED! YOU LIVE UNDER MY ROOF! YOU EAT MY FOOD! BED! NOW!
I hope parents haven't lost control.

I agree with Grog and That MV Guy. Our kids are spoiled and pampered. When I was 8 years old, I had to get up at 4:30a to deliver morning newspapers then went to school and after school I delivered the afternoon newspaper. I had a little over 100 papers to deliver. I got it done all the way through high school. Then I worked full-time what going to college and was able to play sports in the so-called off time. We don't expect or demand enough of kids nowadays. No wonder our society is crumbling. Too many entitled, spoiled kids out there.

Our understanding of sleep and its benefits have improved over the last few decades. Just because something was the norm a few decades ago doesn't make it right -- we just knew less then. I also don't understand this desire to see the next generation suffer simply because we had it tough. The whole point of progressing as a society is to make life better for the next generation.

Yes, I'm imagining these same commenters saying, "Back in my day, we had lead in our gasoline and paint, and my generation turned out fine!" without a hint of self-awareness.
