That quarry needs to be shutdown. It is an eyesore and an environmental nightmare.
The cement plant at the quarry has been fueled by petroleum coke since 2007, the latter (along with the limestone itself) is a major source of mercury emissions. The cement plant is responsible for 29 percent of total Bay Area airborne mercury emissions and was shown to impact a rural site. The quarry provides a huge amount of the cement used in Santa Clara County, construction wondering if lobbying by bid developers has anything to do with the fact that it is still open? Yet, they boast of their environmental accomplishments, what a crock.. Web Link contact Erika Guerra Web Link

I commend Supervisor Joe Simitian and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors for their extra scrutiny of this company. I remember that they were supposed to shut down a long time ago (20 years?) but that never happened. Does anyone remember that/know what happened so that they remain intact?

We used to reside in southernmost Los Altos near 280 and Stevens Creek Road.

The gravel trucks from the quarry make up most of the traffic in the immediate area and they are a noisey nuisance in addition to the gravel trains that run alongside the freeway.

The question is...if the quarry is shut down, where will gravel and concrete be procured?

Hopefully not from China as the PRC already provided much of the steel used for infrastructure improvements.

The quarry has been in operation since 1939 and has provided the cement to build the freeways and other infrastructure which the entire bay area benefits from. The people complaining about the quarry are the same type of persons who buys a house next to an airport or rail line and then complains about the noise.

^ A quarry is not supposed to look like Mt. Rushmore or Half Dome.

It is a gravel pit.

Simple as that.

Besides, who drives all the way up Stevens Creek Canyon Road just to view it's majestic splendor?
