Wow, this story leaves a lot out. There are a lot of other properties and issues affected by the proposed new school. The land involved is actually 11.65 acres of which the 2.5 acres which now holds the parking lot for the empty Joann Fabrics building, the entrance into the shopping center from Showers drive, and about 1/2 of the current California St 24 Hr gym is going to have 2 acres sold to the city for a new city park. The park could open well before 2025, so what the gym construction delay is doing is holding off on demoing the buildings for the city's park to be built!

The school district is going to end up owning the land holding the driveway and the big sign with the park between that and the future school grounds.

It's a shame to have that empty Joann building just sit there doing nothing when it's going to be turned into 1/2 of the new park at some point. Allegedly.
