Why does California have the highest jobless rate in the country?

California has the country's highest unemployment rate. Several factors are contributing, including the state's slow-to-rebound leisure and hospitality sectors. High quit rates suggest workers are optimistic they can find better jobs.

The increases in overall employment cited by the Biden administration are primarily non-professional jobs in the fast food, warehouse, and service sectors.

Most are minimum-wage or below living wage jobs.

This is not the way to stimulate our economy over the long term.
