I think the city should not own any residential housing. If they're really compelled to support growing the homeless population in MV, just provide cash payments.

who knew it'd be controversial to house the homeless! major props to the county for focusing on homelessness; it's a major issue affecting all of us here

I'm concerned that the Voice repeated the misinformation that the Crestview Hotel is near the Amy Imai Elementary School. Google Maps says it's 1.4 miles away. There are a freeway, creek, and cluster of vehicle residences between the hotel and the school.

@Dan Waylonis - cash payments have been shown to be helpful and effective but how are Mountain View's laudable efforts to increase the stock of affordable housing and provide supportive housing for the housing insecure "growing the homeless population" ? Seems to me it does the opposite.

Why not simply buy one of the mundane motels along ECR in MV and turn it into a homeless shelter? Ease of access to public transportation and social services would serve the homeless community well.
