Does the same system work for Choice ST as neighborhoods? (NO). Does the same system for Choice ST have to be the same as Choice MI (of course Not you silly billy). Just use a high SED priority place, say to 14-16% of open enrollment, in Choice ST but not in Choice MI. Simple processing logic. (this much Priority processing could be done with punch-cards and a card sorting machine from the 1950s). It will not delay things if there is a simple sort (SED preference Priority at ST) by hand before the rest of ST and neighborhood DATA is run through the algorithm. [the slightly more complex process was already sent to them / it is 'a beginning CS class' sort and randomize end-of-semester project!]

This Priority process is simple. Even 'Rudolph's impediment' of 'unknown SED status' is not a problem for many ALREADY KNOWN SED (low-income) families. Just use that known official status for all kids in the same family.

Castro is circa 80% SED. Stevenson is about the same as Huff/Imai (6%).

What's the average got to do with it? It seems like there's more of an issue with Castro than with any other school, that is if SED presence adversely harms outcomes...... In a district with a Castro, worrying only about a Stevenson is silly. Plus Theuerkauf has dropped from 70% SED to half that in just a few years. Is this the reason the district average has also dropped? Is it all about Theuerkauf, which shares a site with Stevenson?

@LongResident (and others). Castro is a "neighborhood school" and the Castro Segregation problem is with gerrymandered boundaries and "redlining" of primarily SED/Hispanic/renter families into Castro [a different problem/but related, hat tip to Trustee Chiang]

If it matters, it matters at every school, not just choice schools. It would also be interesting to see data on what default school attendees at Stevenson come from. Do many of them come from Castro? How is the source distributed?

It may be that the district should provided added support to parents of kids at Castro so more of them can attend Stevenson. They may find difficulties participating in a program like PACT. Could be the problem is inherent in PACT, for the SED families..... so quotas and priorities will do nothing to change things.

One also wonders what support the district provides to the SED families at Castro and Mistral, or for that matter at any district school. They are at a great disadvantage.

Most would agree with you. The LCAP plan shows just how RELATIVELY little of the extra "support" [LCFF Supplemental Grant] is sent to Castro and Mistral / compared to ST and IM.
