Hooray! Gotta admit I really like Castro without traffic. The parking lost is minimal compared to the perceived benefit. It has become a real positive for downtown.

are we talking Friday Saturday Sunday or everyday?

I LOVE the idea of KEEPING the street blocked off. When I'm driving, it's easy to go around. And if you're watching trends in urban planning--especially in the Netherlands, you know that making walking and cycling easier is THE way to build friendly, safe communities, with less motor traffic, less noise, and less pollution. So it's an antidote for global warming, as well.

But on the subject of cycling, I'm forced to note that while there is a good bicycle path from Evelyn to Central Expressway, there is NO good way for a bicycle to go in the other direction--which forces said bicycle (mine!) to move through the railway station!

OK, Ms. Bryant, I’m pretty well in tune with what’s going on around MV and this is my first exposure to “concept C”. How is it exactly that you determined what the 75K+ residents of Mountain View want to see done with Castro St??? Did you commission a poll? How much did that cost you? Did you put it to a vote? Don’t think so. You’re basing your “public opinion” on your little group that has the time to show up at council meetings every couple weeks.

“Concept c” involves ripping out a multi million dollar replica of Mountain View’s turn of the century historic train depot. It also routes a street through the middle of millennium plaza which is lined with engraved bricks paid for by sponsorships from multi-generational families of Mountain View, of which she is not one of. It will cost tens of millions of dollars and potentially take a decade to complete when the logical solution is to simply connect the disjointed sections of Evelyn Avenue by utilizing the short existing section of Castro St.

But what do you expect from the former councilwoman that was upset about a public bench being displaced to allow for the display of “two ugly pieces of concrete” in front of the public library.

I wish I knew what Ronit’s end game is, but it’s got to be something.

And don’t get me started on on the money MV has recently spent to add a left turn lane for bicyclists on Castro to Evelyn that will NEVER BE USED. Who’s cousin owns the construction company that got that contract!?!

Seriously people. Wake up!

Oh, and don’t forget the $5500 city worker bonus for doing nothing more than staying home and doing their jobs remotely. What exactly did they do to earn this bonus? Another $3M of our taxpayer dollars squandered……

This is an outstanding result for our city. Castro Street without cars has been a huge success. Congratulations to all of those responsible for daring to think outside the car-centered box.

Simply outstanding! I love going downtown and being able to walk around, eat out, shop a little, and such. Glad to see this direction.

I too love the idea of a walking downtown but as an older long time Mountain View Resident this means that the downtown of my city is not longer accessible to me and many other elders with very limited walking ability. This is another example of the the young and the able winning and the rest of us loosing. I am so very sad that I will never again be able to visit the establishments I helped to establish. This is far from an age friendly city.
