There's a lot of "allegedly"s in this article. I'm looking for news reporting, not speculation, and the definition of "allegedly" has wide-ranging and loaded connotations. For example: asserting without proof, declaring before a court as if under oath, or offering a reason or excuse. Maybe the editors can clarify what their reporters mean when they say "allegedly" in articles.

For statements that the MVPD makes publicly (that MV Voice doesn't want to state as facts, per se because they haven't been through due process), we could also accurately phrase this as "MVPD searched the vehicle and reported finding a handgun, several pounds of marijuana....". I offer this strictly for variety's and clarity's sake, without impacting the innocent-until-proven-guilty paradigm.
"...in a vehicle that allegedly contained a loaded handgun and pounds of marijuana."
"...Officers searched the vehicle and allegedly found the handgun, several pounds of marijuana, concentrated cannabis and $1,000 in cash."

I appreciate your comment, SC Parent, and I'd add that the viewpoint of journalism should always be that the police are no more or less to be trusted than anyone else. In this case, the DUI is the serious problem. Cannabis is medicine and the laws restricting it are abhorrent. The viewpoint of journalism should match that of the majority of Americans, that cannabis is a perfectly safe plant with a plethora of medical and psycho-spiritual usages. As for the gun it's understandable (if not necessarily legal) that a single young woman in the gray market cannabis industry would want to carry one. Robberies happen, and that or worse can certainly happen to a young woman operating in a gray market. Of course, the grey market wouldn't even exist if our horrific prohibition policies hadn't been replaced by an onerous, restrictive and expensive licensing regime designed to eliminate small artisanal players from the legal industry...

The chain of cause and effect goes on and on and on...
