Mountain View Voice is petrified that the voice of the people will be heard. That's why they no longer allow voting on comments. Turns out, leftist views of the paper run contrary to what citizen of the our city believe.

You can only cover for failed socialist policies of Democrats for so long...

Remove Newsom!

Regarding the above tax comment:

All classes: lower, middle, upper including billionaires, are currently paying some historic low taxes, contrary to opinions on the right and the left. The perception is off. And the top 400 families are paying a lower rate than the bottom 50% of the population, so there's room (and justification) for an increase at the upper income levels.

I find it curious that less than a year ago Sac was screaming about a $25B shortfall and now magically it is a $75B surplus. I mean $100B popped in out of nowhere during the COVID recession? Things only started picking up 2 months ago and magically it's raining money?

Or they took $100B from bonds and other programs they were supposed to spend it on based on voter wishes and "re-allocated" it to the Newsome fund?

No transparency in CA budget accounting.

The article explains that 25% of the $100 Billion comes from federal aid. The governor of Ohio took $4 Million of that and offered four $1M prizes to a drawing of those having received Covid vaccines. So when you got or get a covid vaccine in Ohio, you are entered into 4 separate lottery drawings or fewer depending on how long you wait.

The $75 million state revenue surplus was not a sudden surprise. It showed up fairly early in the pandemic and what was interesting was that it continued the whole time, not just since reopening began. First I imagine it benefited from sales tax collection on all those people buying toilet paper and hoarding other things, but it did continue on, which they only know because they waited and watched. Remember all those Amazon and Instacart and other online orders generate sales tax for California. These big businesses including Walmart and Target did record revenue during the siege.
