Why is is that a white person commits a "hate crime" the media is 100% sure to mention the persons race... (most likely along with a long diatribe about why it's Donald Trump's fault..) but here the Voice refrains from mentioning that the perp was black?? Kinda like the way they have been hiding the fact that the vast majority of hate crimes against Asians in the Bay are committed by Blacks. To me this is nothing short of race-baiting and more media manipulation.

Tom,

The "dominant" society remains Caucasian, and most specifically Caucasian Male. Members of minority populations would appear to be suffer much more prejudicial reactions, including assaults and aggressive police actions vs typical whit males. Not sure why you see this as some nefarious "race baiting" and "media manipulation". Are you accusing the Mountain View Voice of trying to stir up hatred of whites? Really?

I do think that we are making an uncomfortable turn at vilifying white men for hate crimes. And I'm an Asian male.

It's not considered appropriate to drum up hype against black male crimes, or latino male crimes, therefore it should not be appropriate to drum up white male crimes.

Crime is crime.

Take for instance the sad tragedy in Atlanta. The evidence published by media (however trustworthy or untrustworthy it may be) suggests that sexual disorder was the motive of the crime. The victims were Asian. And it would have been a despicable crime nonetheless had the victims been black, latinx, or blonde-haired-blue-eyed.

Nor does it make much difference what the ethnicity of the perpetrator was. Nor should it.

Why didn't the MV Voice mention "Jenkins is a transient" as mentioned in KRON4 coverage Web Link Tell the entire story.

It's a sad statement on the membership of this site (and our community at-large) that half of the comments thus far have been about why this particular crime is reinforces that poster's prejudices about a group of people.

Stop it. The Mountain View I love is better than that.
