Despite pandemic, Google announces massive Bay Area expansion plans

Original post made on Mar 18, 2021

COVID-19 and the rise of telecommuting have raised questions about declining demand for office and housing growth and a possible mass exodus out of the Bay Area. But for Google, the plan is to stay the course and grow fast.

let me see - we want 'divestment' and downsizing LIKE DETROIT MICHIGAN? I don't think that is a majority sentiment. :)

Well I think we do need to discourage this sort of development. We have no place to house these people and it would at the very least drive rental prices up, putting even more pressure on the renters. Clearly the Bay Area has no political appetite for even meeting the demand for market rate housing, much less living wage or pow income, so let's get real and address the problem at the demand side. No more new office space until we get into something like balance.

@Seth, I hope that we both can agree that some sort of development is needed "until we get into something like balance." So maybe use government owned land(s). And use them for modest-low-small income units?
There is some perfect land for this (you know: Waverly Park area, the unused segments of the MVWSD's Cooper School where the construction trailers were parked) (I know: the unused equivalent section of MV City surplus Cuesta Park Annex).

Two small areas, one next to a place of modest employment (child care) and the other near retail jobs, a shopping center (Blossom Valley center) and several public bus lines. (VTA and Community Shuttle)

would be sweet
