Do high school students have the option NOT to return to campus if they do not want to do so? This article does not address whether participation in the post-Spring Break hybrid in-person model is mandatory or optional for current students. Please clarify. Thank you!

Lol, THIS is what they came up with? What a joke. This district is the absolute worst. I have zero confidence we’ll actually be back in person in the Fall even. MVLA is determined to be the very last school district in the country to open up. We need to recall this board and fire the superintendent

MaryTheresa: They did specify that students who do not want to go back in person can continue with distance learning on their current schedule through the end of the school year. The teachers will do simultaneous teaching on Zoom or other video solutions, with a projector to show slides for in person students that are also shown on the video for remote students. Other high school districts seem to being doing similar.

Obviously, the MVLA Board of Trustees can't handle the teachers union. They simply rubberstamp whatever nonsense Mr. Campbell brings to the table. The quality of teaching has dropped dramatically, and this will become a new norm for years to come.

I can't imagine a more inconvenient schedule for working parents or a more confusing schedule for students. Also, it's great to learn about the new schedule via the MV Voice as opposed to a direct communication from the district.

I am so disappointed by this town's public school system. Massachusetts has already opened in-person for schools and we have administrators here dragging their feet in Mountain View. Online learning doesn't work well for students, and kids in private schools or rich towns have been moving even further ahead with in-person learning for awhile. At what point do we demand a NEW superintendent?? We need someone who is more focused on student LEARNING and PERFORMANCE, instead of someone focusing his energy on renaming elementary schools because of something an old person did 200 years ago.

I'm glad that the students will get at least SOME in-school time this year and this schedule will ensure that students will finally get to actually MEET the teachers they have had since the Fall. These kids have had their lives upended like many of us, so they deserve a path to normal. This schedule does offer the ability for them to be in-person with all their teachers, so that is a positive aspect. What I am questioning is the timing.

This schedule is essentially the same as what is being rolled out in LASD for the Junior High schools, which seems reasonable, so why isn't MVLA offering this option starting NOW? The Junior Highs had 7th graders back this week and the 8th graders start next week. Why do the high school students have to wait for over a month for the same thing?

The district has had literally months to work on a plan, so I would have expected that any plan should have been able to be rolled out essentially immediately. To characterize the return as the "last three months of the spring semester" is misleading, as is the claim that the students are slated to return in "mid-April". If the students return on April 22 (a Thursday), that is late April, which leaves a week of instruction in April, four weeks in May and little over a week in June, as school ends June 9. That is about 6 weeks of instruction, not three months.

Although I am thankful that the high schoolers will get a taste of normalcy, I am disappointed that the district is continuing to delay their return. Teachers were prioritized for getting their vaccines and many have had their first dose already, with the second in a couple of weeks, so they will see the full efficacy by the end of this month. If there is an issue with equipment or something else, this community should be informed.

I encourage the district to do their utmost to return the student to the classrooms as soon as safely possible. Their educations should not be on hold.
