As a consultant specializing in security and workplace violence prevention for healthcare facilities I have seen hospitals overwhelmed with violent attacks on their staff for decades, but the increased stress due to the current pandemic has escalated it beyond the levels previously seen. The good news is that with a concerted effort a hospital can put things in place that while they may not eliminate violence will at least decrease the frequency and severity, but this is predicated on having resources devoted to prevention and a leadership team who makes it a priority.
