As far as I'm concerned, the most important priority is grade separation for Caltrain. That could save lives and would also ease traffic congestion. And please electify Caltrain.
Apart from those, I do favor the BART extension. It's been a long time coming, let's just finish it. But why would it take 10 years?

All of these local politicians endorsed Measure B - even though opponents warned the "B" stood for BAIT and there would surely be a SWITCH. Bart could be great for transporting coronaviruses. And now we learn Donald Trump's friend Vladimir Putin could deniably derail Bart with a simple hack. Time to re-think work and transportation in view of real world risks and developments. .

Every elector - please at least listen to the 'anti-taxers' and READ THE TEXT of a measure to raise/spend taxes. It was clear from the legal text (and the Fire, Fire Warnings this time) that things could go amiss from 'the promises' of VTA.

BART (Bay Area Rising TAXES)... BART pays directors 400k, Janitors (who watches youtube) 200k, and can't fire incompetent workers. But hey all sold us all all on environmental transportation as they continually waste all our money. I support holding back any additional funding to that MONEY PIT of a transportation agency too.

It's nice to read an article about a Bay Area politician critical of BART and it's ongoing and ever growing costs.

I completely agree with a letter written by County Supervisor S. Joseph Simitian. As he states, "the Measure B 10-Year Outlook needs to serve the entire County to the greatest extent possible, including by avoiding or minimizing reductions in the annual formula programs (Local Streets and Roads, Bicycle/Pedestrian, and Transit Operations) and maintaining progress for the capital projects in the other programs which are already under way."

There is enough money for BART: the 2016 Measure B was the third sales tax passed since 2000 to pay for transportation in Santa Clara County. In November 2000, the voters approved Measure A, a 30-year half cent sales tax devoted to specified public transit capital improvement projects and operations including BART. 2008 Measure B was a 1/8-cent, 30-year sales tax to pay BART for operations, maintenance and improvements.

VTA should consider "value engineering" BART by canceling the unnecessary part of the line from San Jose to Santa Clara that duplicates existing Caltrain and 22/522 bus service. VTA should also use less expensive tunneling alternatives under Santa Clara Street. If additional money is necessary, raise taxes on the rich tech companies that will directly benefit from BART service. Don't gut 2016 Measure B.
