Santa Clara County to step up enforcement of COVID-19 restrictions for holiday weekend

Original post made on Nov 24, 2020

Black Friday shopping, just like almost everything else in 2020, will look very different this year -- no crowds, no late-night in-person sales and no camping out in front of stores before they open.

About Time.

No more accepting the continued infection rate, no matter who issued the rules and broke them. It doesn’t matter.

The argument of “if he can break the rules I can” is the stupidest argument in the world. Given the fact that the disease doesn’t care.

Newsom should in fact be fined too, but that doesn’t leave these businesses off the hook for possible involuntary manslaughter or attempted involuntary manslaughter.

Stop trying to simply look for excuses for inexcusable conduct.

Wish there were a way to be more firm and potentially regulate casual gatherings...as that's how much of the transmission is happening. The State and County are well aware of that. Need to do something soon!

From that article, which aptly describes what our county health officials are doing:
“ “Somebody says something, and somebody else says it, and then it just becomes truth,” said Julia Marcus, an infectious disease epidemiologist at Harvard University. “I worry about this narrative that doesn’t yet seem to be data-based.””

Just last week there was an article in the mercury news that health officials do not know what is causing the surge.
Seems like now Cody has resorted to just throwing things against the wall and hoping something sticks

Amazing how far SELECTIVE PERCEPTION will get you. This researcher has been stressing “RISK MANAGEMENT” approaches to COVID versus “RISK AVOIDANCE". The record shows that:

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, Marcus wrote about public health communication related to coronavirus disease, including what lessons could be learned from the HIV epidemic During the COVID-19 pandemic, Marcus wrote about public health communication related to coronavirus disease, including what lessons could be learned from the HIV epidemic.[14] She took part in a CNN town hall on the pandemic, where she advocated for a harm reduction approach rather than “abstinence-only messaging.”[15] …LIKEWISE, MARCUS BELIEVED THAT SHAMING OR POLICING PEOPLE WHO WERE ENGAGING IN BEHAVIORS THAT WERE HIGH RISK FOR CORONAVIRUS TRANSMISSION, INCLUDING NOT WEARING FACE COVERINGS OR HAVING LARGE GATHERINGS, WOULD BE COUNTERPRODUCTIVE.[17][18] SHE ARGUED THAT PUBLIC HEALTH MESSAGING AND POLICY RELATED TO CORONAVIRUS PREVENTION, INCLUDING FACE MASKS, SHOULD BE COMPASSIONATE RATHER THAN PUNITIVE AND SUPPORT PEOPLE IN OVERCOMING THEIR BARRIERS TO ADOPTING PREVENTIVE BEHAVIORS, similar to the approaches used by effective public health efforts to promote safer sex for HIV prevention.[19]

I hate to say this but there are many occasions where “Doctors” sell their expertise to those willing to pay them. Just like Dr. Robert Kehoe who was a paid researcher for the led production industry. There is widespread paid misinformation being published, like you Victor, in effect becoming more of a public danger than the virus.

The bottom line is that the people like Victor here have promoted and succeeded in getting people to take actions that increased their risk of infection AND THE NUMBERS PROVE IT. YOU are responsible for the surge of infections because you and your friends are not taking it seriously.

Victor,

As long as I can provide proof that you make up stories or use "poor" science so bad that it can easily disprove it, GOOD.

All that matters is I HOPE the readers here do take it SERIOUSLY and simply NEVER continue to behave the way you promote.

I will love it when the social controls get strong enough to drop the infections, thus proving the point of this action. We have had 3 times where your course of action has proven WRONG.

Trying to transfer the responsibility of the continued outbreak onto those who “tried” to keep us safe is not a winning argument. All you have to do is look at the data, in June the rates started going down, then they came back up, then in August/September the fire smoke kept people indoors at home which reduced the rates, and now when the rates go down because of this action, it will finally prove the only RELIABLE way at this time to prevent infection.

EVERY time there was a let up on the vigilance of virus infection prevention, it resulted in more disease and death. WE CAN"T AFFORD IT ANYMORE.

Please look up the 60 Minutes story regarding those who “survive” or “recover” from COVID.

There are some already identified long term impairments caused by the virus. Recovery doesn’t mean you aren’t PERMENANTLY injured by it.

If say for example only 5% of the 12 Million people already diagnosed get the severe impairment, that is 600,000 people that are likely going to be disabled. That is if that rate stays there, but Harvard School of Public Health is just starting to learn about it.

But the JAMA research indicates it is far higher Here is a confirmed rate:

“In a recent JAMA research letter, 125 of 143 Italian patients ranging in age from 19 to 84 years still experienced physician-confirmed COVID-19–related symptoms an average of 2 months after their first symptom emerged. All had been hospitalized, with their stays averaging about 2 weeks; 80% hadn’t received any form of ventilation.”(Web Link

So it doesn’t even need to be a SEVERE event to have long term problems. DEATH is not the worst outcome for some, survival can be worse.

Why can’t it be obvious, no one can afford to be infected?

Victor,

I am not ATTACKING anyone, in fact it is you that are waging a war of PERSONAL attacks.

As I said, I simply DISPPROVE "JUNK" SCIENCE, not ATTACKING anyone.

You have claimed in another post that you WERE a medical researcher And yet you criticize your fellow peers like those from the Journal of the American Medical Association, with no SCIENCE to substantiate it?? Again the research is found here (Web Link

Instead of trying to PREVENT suffering you are ENCOURAGING it, your claim is that since you are not a Medical Doctor and not sworn to prevent dis-ease, is not excuse nor is it even reasonable.

Be careful everyone, I hope you all will not become infected.

Victor,

Here is your peers talking:

""So, we'll be seeing close to 4,000 deaths a day, which is how you get another 60,000 deaths in only about 20 days," Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a professor of medicine at George Washington University, said Wednesday."(Web Link

Also:

"Only 1 in 8 US Covid-19 cases may have been counted"

12.5% of the count is being accounted for, just what till the real numbers finally come in?

When will we take this situation seriously, Victor?

You are worse than care-less. And I am trying to prevent harm, are you? That is REALLY offensive. You are in effect intentionally trying to get more people sick.

I wasn’t HAPPY with the fires, BUT they did prevent more COVID infections, that ALL I have said, AND YOU KNOW IT.

I WANT THEM TO BE EFFECTIVE AND SAFE, BUT WE NEED PROOF THEY ARE THAT’S ALL.

AGAIN, you are a liar. WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO PREVENT Santa Clara County from becoming an LA? NOTHING, that’s what your doing and trying to avoid any means to prevent it, RIGHT? Doing NOTHING is not going to prevent spread AND YOU KNOW IT.

I NEVER said they were NOT EFFECTIVE, I said they have not been researched with a PEER REVIEWED test yet. You constantly try to mislead people here. Press releases from a Pharma company is NOT real research UNLESS it is disclosing a PEER REVIEWED test study. So far, the companies haven’t presented any. That’s all.

And for all his out of control yelling, SG does not know that vaccine development does not include a peer review. All the data and information goes to the FDA for approval, disapproval or modification,

Steven posts a story about new lockdowns in LA county because their 7 days average has exceeded 4500 cases. He calls it “future news”. I take that to mean future news for this area, I also take that to mean that SG wants a large increase in cases in this area.

You in fact PROVED my point the FDA DOES NOT REQUIRE adequate science to give the Emergency Use Authorization. Which was what it did with AZT and AIDS.

This is even more dangerous because it is a VACCINE, and it will be given to all the Doctors and Nurses first, making them the guinea pigs. I simply am SCARED out of my mind if it turns out to be harmful and we lose a large part of our Medical Professionals WHILE the pandemic is still in place.

I understand that no action will occur until at least December 10. I pray that the data will pan out and a vaccine is good to go, but I need PROOF it is safe given that picture. Imagine having even 25% of the Doctors and Nurses being ill while COVID is still infecting more people? It will overrun our medical system and become completely out of control for good. You wrote:

I am trying to be the same as Doc. Brown in Back to the Future Part 3 (Web Link when he said:

“Doc:: " It means your future hasn't been written yet. No one's has. Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one, both of you." A great reminder for all of us !

We are almost certain to get a strict SIP order again. We are worse than LA.

I can't believe we let it get this bad. I thought I was looking at the future but in reality the ship sailed more than a week ago.

SG, in an attempt to mislead, is comparing apples to oranges

On the LA site the number SG is referring to is the testing positive rate, which is the daily percent of tests that are positive and is 6.9%

To make a fair comparison, SG should use the SCC positivity rate which is 3.0%and that number is stated to be "The positivity rate is the percent COVID-19 tests that are positive".

So the real comparison is LAs positive test percentage rate of 6.9% vs SCC positive test percentage rate of 3%

I realize that SG was thrilled when he thought that we were in worse shape than LA county, but that is not the case.

Let’s look at SG misleading claims another way.
SCC 7 day average is 385 cases for 2 million people.
LA county 7 day average is over 4500 cases for 10 million people

Simple math, LA has more than twice the number of cases that we do. Not that our number is that good, but to say that we are worse than LA county?????

I admit I made a mistake, unlike you who never does. THANK GOD WE STILL CAN DO SOMETHING!

The current rate for LA is reported her (Web Link Versus the SCC Website here (Web Link

However, in the last week of reporting that metric increased from 2.5% to 3% a 20% increase is scary still. However, our HEALTH EQUITY RATE is VERY close to LA already it states a health equity metric of 6.8%. If you read the Health Equity Metric from the SCC DPH is 6.3%. The LA Adjusted Case rate is 16% where ours is at 7.7%, LA has 31.9 new cases per 100,000, our current level is 385 new cases divided by 32985 cases which places us at 11.7 new cases per 100,000.

So far, we are actually MUCH better at this time. The problem is that we haven’t even started the REAL surge yet. All of the models are lagging regarding infectious events, and the Thanksgiving holiday is already being described as a “superspreader” event. Again, I HOPE WE DON’T because we have implemented the Purple tier of control. But if you think we are out of the woods or “turning the corner” you really are jumping the gun.

So again, I AM SO HAPPY that I WAS WRONG.

BUT WE CANNOT AFFORD TO REST ON IT, IT TAKES CONSTANT WORK FROM ALL OF US.

Victor, please tell us something you know that will improve our results that we can do today?

Thanks

Victor,

Here we go again look at the Mercury News article titled "Santa Clara County to release tough new COVID-19 rules on heels of San Francisco
" (Web Link ) it states:

"Santa Clara County is expected to release new COVID-19 restrictions in light of its rising caseload Saturday, including a temporary ban on all high school, collegiate and professional sports, a mandatory quarantine for those traveling into the region from more than 150 miles away and new capacity limits for indoor businesses, according to county sources.

The new restrictions arrive as California experiences its worst COVID-19 surge yet and within hours of a similar rollback from San Francisco County, which was placed into the state’s most restrictive “purple” reopening tier starting Saturday.

Santa Clara County’s new restrictions will include a 14-day quarantine for all those traveling to and from the county from more than 150 miles away, according to documents obtained by this news organization, as well as a temporary ban on sporting activities — including professional sports like the San Jose Sharks ice hockey team. Cardrooms must temporarily close, while hotels and other facilities must be open only for essential travel or to facilitate isolation or quarantine. Stores must be limited to 10% capacity, excepting grocery stores, drug stores and pharmacies, which may operate at 25% capacity.

Health care workers traveling into the county to provide care — or patients — will be exempt from quarantine. The new directives will go into effect on Monday at 12:01 a.m. and last until at least Dec. 21st, a time period of three weeks."

IDK if it will make much difference regarding the trend of infection in that short a time. Most epidemiologists are not sounding at all hopeful.

Please I DO WANT the vaccines to work. But so far no PEER REVIEWED research has been published yet.

I simply THINK that we are no where close to getting loose from the grip of COVID.
