Please be safe, everyone! We're all in this together! Wear masks. Stay physically distanced. Gather outdoors where fresh air disperses aerosol droplets.

My family has cancelled our very modest Thanksgiving plans. I cherish the thought of past and future holidays together. But it's not worth the cost in human suffering that we could cause by inadvertently spreading COVID among my family and then throughout the community.

The Hospitals report they will be overrun in 3 weeks if this keeps up in the Merc.

The story is here (Web Link

“SEE WHAT YOU MADE US DO”

We could have PREVENTED this.

But NO, you all had to be selfish, and wanted to hurt or kill as many people you could.

You ALL that wanted to open up and not take preventative steps should be identified and ARRESTED for attempted murder.

Truly ridiculous comments Steven. Almost as ridiculous as you being glad that there were fires so that the smoke caused people to say inside in Septmber.
The article you link to tells were the large proportion of the cases are. This has been going on there for months. What is Cody and the county doing about it.

And since you claim that ALL were involved, turn yourself into the police.

Steve Goldstein: The urge to ARREST people for "attempted murder" is an extremely authoritarian one. Many on the Right have called for arrests and purges of their political enemies, and I'm now sadly seeing the same language coming from the Left, aimed at Trump Administration officials and, now, at those who want to open up society again.

Regardless of whether you personally agree with it or not, a government-mandated curfew (which incorporates magical thinking in assuming gatherings become more dangerous after 10 p.m.) is a step towards more top-down social control. People skeptical of such policies should not be subject to arrest.

In response to Victor Bishop you wrote:

That was what happened, at least during that time the spread of COVID was prevented by the unhealthy outdoor air. You Know This. You wrote:

The County did everything it could, it told people to wear masks, it told people to social distance, it told people not to interact of go to places that could be contaminated with COVID.

BUT YOU ALL IGNORED THESE GUIDELINES AND CAUSED THE NEW INFECTIONS.

These people are guilty of INLOUNTARY MANSLUGHTER in California, which is defined as:

“Involuntary Manslaughter Charges in California

Involuntary manslaughter is the killing of another person without malice or intent to kill, but rather done with THE CONSCIOUS DISREGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE. California law defines this as:

A death occurring during the commission of a non-felony unlawful act; or

A legal act that has a high risk for death or bodily injury, AND THE DEFENDANT FAILED TO ACT WITH CAUTION.

A conviction for involuntary manslaughter in California carries a state prison sentence of two, three or four years.” Defined by the law firm of Robert M Helfand you can read there information here (Web Link

To me the Department of Public Health gave these people the right advice, they acted with conscious disregard for human life and they acted intentionally to fail to act with caution.

This is settled law. So when PeqaceLove said:

“Steve Goldstein: The urge to ARREST people for "attempted murder" is an extremely authoritarian one. Many on the Right have called for arrests and purges of their political enemies, and I'm now sadly seeing the same language coming from the Left, aimed at Trump Administration officials and, now, at those who want to open up society again.”

This is the law, and I hope these people get prosecuted and made an example so this nightmare we are in NEVER occurs again. The people are being given the information to establish that violating the guidelines, and maybe soon requirements will result in appropriate action. But when you wrote:

“Regardless of whether you personally agree with it or not, a government-mandated curfew (which incorporates magical thinking in assuming gatherings become more dangerous after 10 p.m.) is a step towards more top-down social control. Actually violation of any guidelines or curfews are going to result in possible INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER. This is not POLITICAL, it is LIFE AND DEATH here!

Unbelievable,

That so many here think it is a matter of "individual liberty" instead of being a "public threat" or "danger".

That what many posters that have written here promote.

Time for you to be recognized for being a threat to us ALL.

But all of you use anonymous names to avoid personal responsibility.

If you really think your in the right, self identify yourselves.

In any case:

There goes any holiday shopping except online.

This is going to ruin the "13th" month of retail.

In the 1980s I worked retail in electronics. The November December period was called the 13th month because of all the holiday buying.

The lack of employment will ruin any chance of any real economic progress for next year.

No doubt, there will be no way to avoid another major unemployment insurance extension and expansion. If not done, the country will be in a depression very fast.

" aimed at Trump Administration officials "

Aimed at those who are still healthy in the adminsitration, or the FORTY NINE who already have Covid?

Asking for a friend....

60 Minutes did a great report on long term impairments even after recovery of COVID.

My god, if the death is bad enough, the living with the aftermath is still a serious problem.

And NO ONE even wants to address it.

Instead so many out there want to "open up" and try to ignore that part of the problem.

How many thousands of people are going to he impaired or disabled due to COVID, the price of disability insurance and long term health care is going to be incredible.

Thousands of senseless deaths with a vaccine on the horizon are truly tragic. C'mon everyone! Hang in there for 3-6 more months! Save lives!

Even if we can't all get the vaccine immediately, those who do get it (medical workers, at-risk folks, frontline essential workers) will make the rest of us safer through safer public interactions.

Greg,

WOW you said a mountain in such a small statement.

But scary as it sounds, the entire world is in grief and in a depression at the least. I know I am a doom and gloom guy by many peoples point of view. It isn't a false observation.

But my HOPES are we ALL learn a lesson and stop bickering with each other and start cooperating.

I still believe that if we do this again in the next generation, we never make the mistakes we did now. We could have killed COVID without a vaccine if we had acted sooner.
