I had to go to the court of appeals just to prove to the police that 2 single blue LEDS on my windshield washer sprayers were in fact legal under the vehicle code.

It in effect took down a Lt. in the Sunnyvale Police Department because he gave me a citation with no proof that my car violated the vehicle code.

I proved the light were legal under the CVC with a light meter.

When the citation was overturned with the record of the case, the Sunnyvale Police had to review his records. He shortly resigned from the police department and went into private security.

I can only imagine what they found. He was probably given a choice resign or get fired.

It was like pulling teeth because the traffic court didn't even consider my evidence during the hearing. That Traffic Court Commissioner also wound up being let go.

So I feel it personally when the police abuse their position. BUT I also know WE NEED them too. We just have to get the system to get RID of the BAD APPLES.

All public employee unions and department heads seek to protect public employees from oversight. This sheriff is a career sheriff's department administrator and a Republican. She probably will not run again - if a reform-minded opponent steps forward. It is alarming that she has survived so many scandals. But voters have been sensitive to the prospect that some opposition to her has been motivated by sexism in law enforcement.
