Fearing 'election theft in progress,' Eshoo shows support for Postal Service

Original post made on Aug 18, 2020

Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, D-Palo Alto, held a press conference on Tuesday morning to address what she labeled as the Trump administration's attempt to "hijack" democracy by undermining the U.S. Postal Service.

While there is some risk foreign agents not subject to prison in America might try to intercept mailed-out ballots, forge signatures and return them, it seems very unlikely. There are better ways to steal elections. One is for a President with the support of a minority of voters to take steps to discourage voting and not count votes. That is what President Trump's manipulation of the Postal Service portends. No state should now count on the Postal Service to timely deliver ballots to voters or from voters. Trump will reject or not spend properly additional funding . Trump has not backed off an inch. He just waves white flags before resuming his assault on representative democracy. So what we need are more OFFICIAL BALLOT DROP BOXES. California law only requires one box per 15,0O0 registered voters. Many swing states have no drop boxes. Some states may force voters to choose to vote over their health. Trump would like only his supporters to vote. But unable to delivery his poison that specifically, he will need to settle on a low number of votes cast or counted in the key states.

If you want to secure the mail in ballots, just have them sent certified mail wit return receipt and have them prepaid for the return trip?

It is that simple, and the security will be significant.

Why we don't do it nationwide is a real joke.

The reality is that the elections are rigged by lack of voting stations and poor equipment at the polls. Also that people have to leave work to vote too. This way everyone registered to vote can at their own convenience.

Not a bad idea, not perfect but not bad.

As I suggest above, the reason we do not seem to have many people voting for others is that it is a serious crime (a state felony and a federal felony in a federal election) and those crimes don't pay (i.e., don't net enough votes to steal an election). Plus, as you suggest, there are other tricks available to con-men including the constant misinformation we get from Trump and his cohorts. The issue this week is whether to throw billions at the Postal Service run by a Trump operative - in the irrational hope he will become honest - OR invest a few millions of dollars in more OFFICIAL BALLOT DROP BOXES. It is complicated by the fact that Republicans hold power in most of the states and in the U.S. Senate and White House. There is a basic reason Russia is not a representative democracy despite holding elections: the people in power will not allow it.

If you feel safe enough to stand in checkout line at Costco — you are safe enough to vote.

If you are not bothered being asked for an ID when you buy a case of Budweiser, you can show your ID when you vote.

In response to Groot you said:

“If you feel safe enough to stand in checkout line at Costco — you are safe enough to vote.”

I DON'T FEEL SAFE AT ALL!

I am forced to go outside my place in order to access all products a store sells. The ONLINE stores are incomplete. They don't sell all the products of the stores.

So that logic made no sense You said:

“If you are not bothered being asked for an ID when you buy a case of Budweiser, you can show your ID when you vote.,”

Again, I pointed out that we are FORCED to leave our homes to get supplies, these should be provided without FORCING us to leave our homes. As far as ID is concerned, again with Certified mail the COURTS accept this as a VALID means of DELIVERY in a SECURED manner. The COURTS “TRUMP” a “liquor store” standard don’t you think? You are in fact creating a possible COVID “super” spreading event by having so many people collect at one place.

Your just being argumentative with arguments that don’t make any sense.

Don't see what the fuss is about, in California a "theft in progress" has been re-classified as a "strategic re-allocation of property" by your local D.A.

Well Ken. It is not that kind of theft. Maybe you meant to post a comment on the article about inmates getting unemployment. As to guarding against the stealing the November election, I do have a suggestion. I just received in today's mail a first-class, postage fully prepaid letter from San Jose (California) mailed two weeks ago on August 5. We cannot count on the U.S. Postal Service under Donald Trump to deliver election materials in time for voters to timely return ballots through the mail. Not matter how much money Congress throws at the Postal Service, that money would never need to be used to help process election materials. Never. We should mostly use OFFICIAL BALLOT DROP BOXES to return ballots. The location of the nearby boxes must be listed in the ballot pamphlet from the county Registrar of Voters. So locations need to be selected in the next couple of weeks. I am thinking two curbside boxes at the closed Mountain View library and maybe also at the Rengstorff Community Center. Voters who can drive may pull up and drop off their completed ballots. The City Council should ask the City Clerk about the plan for Mountain View that can then be cleared with the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters. Time is running out.

Overnight, the chief critic of the President, while flying back to the nation's capitol, took ill and is now near death on a ventilator. You may recall that this critic was ineligible to run again for President in 2016. But he remained a critic. His allies claim he was poisoned on the jet flight. He had been warned about criticism.

Gary,

I think you meant the Russian President, unless you are also arguing that the Russian President is our President by Proxy?

Of course I was intentionally vague. But you do raise an issue: is Putin any worse than Trump? Would Trump torture and execute his political adversaries if he could? Maybe "Ken" has an opinion.
