California averaged 100 COVID fatalities per day last week. All this reopening is way too premature and surely lead to more deaths either directly or indirectly by encouraging reckless behavior by residents who think the disease is going away by itself.
In contrast New York City, once the world's worst COVID hotspot, had zero deaths yesterday. They are going in the right direction and we are sinking fast if we cannot push hard to get back on track.

The problem is that Newsome allowed SoCAl to open much faster than the Bay Area and then when cases started to increase down there weeks ago, he did nothing. Now 1/2 to 2/3 of daily cases are coming from SoCal

Please understand?
Since the counties are not locking down traffic between them, the idea that one county can operate under different rules is simply a false logic.
The people in the other counties will come into Santa Clara County to participate in activities not allowed in their own county.
Thus there will be an additional rise in cases starting from today.
The idea that counties could individually manage the COVID infections was a false one, like the idea that states also could do it as well.
The ONLY way this works is by requiring not only Shelter In Place and Social Distancing Protocols, but also the prohibition of interstate and intercounty travel completely.
But until these two are in fact in place, the idea this was going to work was crazy.

Business Man- actually there is less open in SCC than most other counties. SCC has always lagged other counties in reopening
ANd banning intercounty travel is not feasible at all, for a variety of reasons-- people working in other counties, people living near border shop in next county etc.
When you think about it, the SIP has never really been enforced it has relied on people sheltering themsleves. I know of no one that was ever stopped by police and asked what he was doing out

If it were not for Donald Trump and the coronavirus, Californians would be worried about how dry it is. A grass fire in San Jose (101 near 13th Street) at 3:30 pm today was an early warning. Dry grass - big fires. Public employees are still employed. Maybe preventative steps will be taken. Bets?

In response to SoCal you said:
“Business Man- actually there is less open in SCC than most other counties. SCC has always lagged other counties in reopening”
That doesn’t mean that we are not equally vulnerable. It only means we tried to be more conservative. You said:
“ANd banning intercounty travel is not feasible at all, for a variety of reasons-- people working in other counties, people living near border shop in next county etc.”
If you look at all the other nations that are still currently improving on their COVID infection rates, THIS IS EXACLTY WHAT THEY DID. They in effect prevented their peope from cross contaminating each other via REAL SOCIAL CONTROLS. We never did, and as long as we refuse to do so, the infections can never get under that kind of control. You said:
“When you think about it, the SIP has never really been enforced it has relied on people sheltering themselves. I know of no one that was ever stopped by police and asked what he was doing out.”
BUT in the beginning the people were VERY thoughtful and attempted to work as a team to get the situation under control. BUT the fact is we as a nation are TOO DISINTEGRATED TO ACHIEVE ANYTHING TOGETHER AT THIS TIME. We are so bipolarized and seek scapegoating others for problems so much we cannot achieve what other countries have. We can’t even get the people to wear masks or facial coverings.
Until WE finally GET SERIOUS as a NATION, we are going to be an easy TARGET of COVID. IT will conquer the U.S. Either by killing or disabling more people than necessary, costing countless more Billions of dollars in damage, or scarring the American People for generations.
We failed the big test didn’t we?

What I find amusing is that a certain prolific poster on this forum, who is now raving about SIPs and curtailing travel. This person has admitted that he creeps around Castro Street taking pictures of diners. This is a clear violation of the SIP, as this person is not exercising, shopping or dining. He is out without a basis reason. A violation of the county order.

ABOUT TIME:
These businesses have been getting away with making claims that they are protecting the public, but not be accountable for failure to do so.
The new revision includes the following requirements:
“The newest Social Distancing Protocol has new requirements and you must fill out this version even if you previously completed an older version.
What to expect: When you click on the link below, you will be able to fill out a Social Distancing Protocol. The Protocol requires you to enter information that:
IDENTIFIES AND PROVIDES CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE BUSINESS AND THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROTOCOL (THIS WILL USUALLY BE AN OWNER OR MANAGER)”
Good so the individual or business is responsible to uphold the SDP it also said:
“CONFIRMS THAT THE BUSINESS IS POSTING PROPER SIGNAGE”
A good specific task that needs to be affirmed in order to keep operating it goes on to say:
“CONFIRMS THAT THE BUSINESS IS PROPERLY TRAINING ITS WORKERS”
Again makes sense to me. It goes on to say:
“CONFIRMS THAT THE BUSINESS IS PUTTING MEASURES IN PLACE TO PROTECT ITS WORKERS AND THE PUBLIC”
GOOD, that means it must take proactive steps, like creating a legal record of the public usage of the business so that if ANY person using them is TESTED positive, the proper TRACING can be performed and all other people in that business during that viable time can be contacted for TESTING. This of course also means that a RECORD of those in any group sitting closer than 6 feet must be properly identified as being in the same household too. These businesses are going to have to act as agents of the Santa Clara Department of Public Health under this requirement. It goes on to say:
“CONFIRMS THAT THE BUSINESS HAS AN ADEQUATE PLAN IN PLACE IF A WORKER TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19”
Good, I doubt any of these business have that figured out. It goes on to say:
“CERTIFIES UNDER PENALTY OF PERJURY THAT THE INFORMATION SUBMITTED IS TRUE AND ACCURATE TO KNOWLEDGE OF THE PERSON SIGNING THE PROTOCOL”
VERY GOOD THIS HOLDS THOSE SIGNING LEGALLY LIABLE IF THEY FAILED PERFORM THE REQUIREMENTS ABOVE. The definition also stated:
“Certification under penalty of perjury: The Protocol cannot be submitted unless it is signed under penalty of perjury by a person who is authorized by the business. If you are filling out this form, you must ensure that you have been authorized to complete the form and submit it for the business. Once you complete the Protocol at the link below, you will need to sign the Protocol using an electronic DocuSign signature. (You cannot sign using pen and paper.) SUBMITTING THE PROTOCOL UNDER PENALTY OF PERJURY MEANS EVERYTHING ON THE FORM MUST BE TRUTHFUL TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, AND INCLUDING INFORMATION YOU KNOW IS FALSE IS A CRIME.
It looks like the County finally got the right approach down. The County WILL hold a business accountable if it fails to provide the performance of the above. Failure to do so will revoke the privilege of being a service provider regarding “outdoor dining”.
If any of these business do not want to follow this SDP then they must shut down “outdoor dining” and return to Delivery and Take Out only.
This becomes effective on Monday.
I predicted this kind of situation would arise. Then those scoffed saying I was wrong.
NOW.
Things are now requiring accountability.
They said it was a right to be in business. Restaurant licenses are privileges, just like drivers licenses. They are not allowed to operate unless proper procedures are followed under license laws.
But you forgot to understand this didn't you?
Please understand, you have a lot of people making assumptions regarding safety, and we CAN'T do that.

I am sure that the police will take it seriously when a person is violating the SIP and is skulking around in private property taking pictures of diners. A perp walk and a forensic audit may be on order

In response to He Has It Wrong you said:
“I am sure that the police will take it seriously when a person is violating the SIP and is skulking around in private property taking pictures of diners. A perp walk and a forensic audit may be on order”
People sitting on Castro Street are NOT on PRIVATE property. Being on the street is PUBLIC space EVEN if it is LEASED to the RESTAURANTS.
They are in a public space, no PRIVACY is expected or legally appropriate.
NICE TRY. You really need to get a better understanding of the real world.
As far as being a person just taking a walk, which is allowed under SIP, it JUST so happens I walk on Castro Street, since I live a couple blocks away. I don't even drive there.
ANYONE can take pictures on the street, your just like the guy that was being “threatened” in this story “'I feel threatened!' Viral outburst at Fort Myers Costco costs man his job” found here (Web Link
You do in fact scare me because I know if you found me taking pictures in a public place, like Castro St, you are very likely going to assault me. That is why I am careful to keep a good distance from the subjects I take pictures of, significantly far, but my camera image is good enough to zoom in to see the distances correctly.
The reality is that these businesses DON’T CARE at all about public safety, they just want the freedom to do PUBLIC HARM.
WHAT promises do you offer to prevent the spread of COVID “Has It Wrong”?

This situation is getting worse by the day:
Let’s address the Moderna vaccine story. It was a test on 45 healthy people and they suffered a variety of symptoms after receiving the vaccine. Yes there is an “antibody” response but the report shows they never were exposed to COVID. Thus they are not PROVEN to be immune to COVID. The report is in many ways misleading by the methodology and the results.
Next, the CDC is now being bypassed regarding the COVID data and treatment by the White House. This means that a political office, the Health and Human Services will distribute information it sees fit. This is VERY concerning because the evidence of the current surge in infections shows no signs of reduction.
Next, the marketing of PHRMA to claim it is making progress on COVID where there is NO EVIDENCE of this actually happening is scary. There is NO medication that actually is designed to address COVID, people are just trying out and using medicines that are only thought to be effective, but no proof of effectivity has been produced.
Finally, the idea that Business and the Government is acting on wishful or best case information and not addressing the worst case means we are all at risk. There has been no scientific proof that we have an effective vaccine or medication that actually DOES treat COVID. WHY?
Because the “RULING CLASS” of the country is terrified with the idea that if the people realize how dangerous and out of control the COVID is the increased risk of loss of their CONTROL over the people will be. Imagine if all the people realize that these systems are all failing them? The people will revolt in such a number that the Business and Governments will collapse.
This is why you have so many people trying to attack anyone demonstrating that the situation is NOT improving, it is in fact getting WORSE.

Is the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health providing accurate results?
I just watched CNN and Florida is doing this regarding testing:
Say 10 people are tested for 5 weeks so 50 tests are done.
Say that 5 people test positive in the last week?
The SCC is likely to report that only 10% of the tests resulted in positives.
BUT the fact was 5 out of 10 people in the last week are positive, that’s 50%.
WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE METHODOLOGY. People like to claim Santa Clara County is testing low. BUT these reports may be completely wrong?
I just saw that the COVID team in the White House has determined the STATE of CA is a RED ZONE and thus we should continue to Roll Back our efforts to reopen seen here (Web Link
Looks like we are going back to Phase 1 everyone.
