How about the county actually pay those Contract Tracers and maybe they will have a program that will actually work. Plus they would be providing jobs as essential workers. A benefit for both the county and worker even if it is temporary.

The County currently has 21,000 employees. It doesn't seem like a stretch to me that they could rapidly re-assign 5% of them to do contract tracing, along with whatever number of volunteers qualify. I agree with the previous poster that anyone doing this job should be paid. Even those of us who volunteer to work at polling places during elections are paid roughly $20/hour, and we are paid for the time we spend being trained for those roles.

Will there be Livescan background checks or other privacy and security protections for the people being tracked? This sounds like a widespread security/privacy breach waiting to happen.
And it does seem like a stretch for volunteers to spend at minimum 24 uncompensated hours each weeks.

My unemployment runs out in December. If you decide to make it a paid position by then, and I don’t find another job, I will be happy to apply!

@unemployed, I share your thoughts and your employment status. But I'd even start before December if the pay was right!
Expecting 1000 people to sign on for 6 months or more as unpaid customer service reps seems like wishful thinking. Also, kind of insulting. Wouldn't it be a boon to the local economy to hire 1,000 people laid off by the pandemic?
