The city councils need to close these streets NOW. It's going to be the only thing to keep restaurants alive. PLUS, it improves the space for pedestrians! It's so much nicer to walk around these downtown areas without needing to worry about being killed by a car. (There are other things to worry about nowadays!)

I hope MV allows for the closing of Castro to accommodate more outdoor seating. It will be a huge help to the restaurants (perhaps the only way some can stay alive). And, if it works well, maybe we can permanently close a few blocks of Castro and make it more pedestrian-friendly.

I understand why this is a alternative over not having ANY business at all.

What we are dealing with is a SEVERE situation. NO ONE IS ACTUALLY SAYING WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE MOW.

What is it you ask?

PUTTING THE ENTIRE ECONOMY ON LIFE SUPPORT. STIMULUS IS NOT THE RIGHT WORD FOR IT.

The reality is that our economic system cannot survive a pandemic like this.

The economy is in a medically induced COMA. And it cannot be taken out if it until the COVID 19 treatment or vaccine is ready.

And since it looks like VERY LITTLE improvement is occurring in research, GIVEN that the medical research is getting inconsistent results. NO ONE should even think this is a situation that is under control.

Donald Trump happened to become president when the worst case scenario hit. It is a uncontrollable situation until the scientists get this virus under scientific control.

But we REALLY have to be careful about this course of action. I don't claim to have an optimum plan. There will need to be "experiments" but don't be surprised if they have some bad results. They are simply unavoidable except for risk AVOIDANCE. But in this case we are attempting risk MANAGEMENT.

I agree. Let's run the experiment of using car lanes and parking spaces for business use. Having space to eat and walk while practicing physical distancing is going to do more to keep main street businesses afloat than cars driving through but not stopping and shopping.
