Yes! Close these main streets to car traffic! It would make it much safer for pedestrians and cyclists, since they could better socially distance from others. Plus they wouldn't need to worry about getting hit by cars…

I think it's a great idea to have parklets or additional restaurant seating. Even without a global pandemic forcing our hand, this would be a great option to improve the walkability and livability of our downtown areas.

Please close Castro Street to car traffic!

Just curious on how long this would be in effect. Some of our Castro street businesses/restuarants have already taken to the streets, taking valuable parking so that they can expand their business without paying rent, or for that matter upkeep and maintenance. There is a balance that needs to be struck to help these local merchants get back on their feet, but I don't want the city or it's residents to feel taken advantage of and some of these business have already done that. Personally, I will not feel comfortable being out and about until there is a vaccine, but I know people want to get back to work.

Downtown restaurants and shops improve this city and community. It's why we all live nearby or travel downtown. They pay A LOT in rent and taxes to be able to provide their services.

So why do cars get to use up a TON of that valuable real estate for FREE?

Who's taking advantage of whom here?

As seated dining comes back, more space outdoors will help.... but it'll be a challenge to keep enough space for safely navigating Castro by foot (on sidewalk or on street).

Maybe restaurants could be allowed to open temporary outposts on empty corporate or public or even in parks in the evening?

Cities and restaurants—particularly within Santa Clara County—have far bigger problems than figuring out how serve their customers in a profitable way.

Dr. Sara Cody, the County’s Chief Public Health official told the Board of Supervisors recently that “"The conditions really haven’t changed in our county," she said. "We don’t suddenly have a vaccine. We have exactly the same conditions we had in March,”
She added, ““If we did ease up, we would see a brisk return of cases, of hospitalizations, and a brisk return of deaths, to be quite blunt.”

Fellow citizens, business owners and city elected officials, unless you contact your County Supervisor’s Office today, ask move to stage 2 and request termination of Dr. Cody, we will not have to worry about restaurants needing space, for they will be out of business.

Can't wait for the chains to take over the failing locals, they'll LOVE that free space out on the street!

And where are all of these restaurant goers going to park? Most of the large parking lots in downtown Mountain View have been taken over for building. Now you're going to take away street parking?

Fully agree with calls to fire Sara Cody. Her policy of lockdown until vaccine is going to crush Santa Clara County. Replace her with someone who understands the toll her lockdown policy is having on everyone's livelihood.

Sounds like a bad idea for multiple reasons.
1) There wasn't sufficient parking before, this further reduces parking by eliminating street parking.
2) It would jam up traffic surrounding it, it was already bad enough before.
2) I don't want to eat my meal on scorching hot asphalt/concrete with little/no shade, what an unpleasant experience and thought.
