Governor Newson has set up four stages for opening up California. Stage 4 will not happen until a COVID-19 vaccine and therapies are in place. Unfortunately, that may take a long time.

In the meantime, restaurants and non-essential retail business have rent, insurance, taxes and other expenses to pay. Castro Street and El Camino Real will look pretty deserted and boarded up in a few weeks. All this for a nasty bug that has killed 55,000 plus to date nationwide. The question must be asked: Has quarantining health people instead of at-risk individuals been worth killing our economy?

Who are the "At Risk" individuals you're suggesting quarantine, as compared to "health[y]"? Without adequate testing, which the federal government is still unable to provide, and a two week incubation period, you simply cannot tell the difference between infected, infectious, asymptomatic individuals and uninfected individuals.

Even if everything "opens up" tomorrow, who's going to be rushing to a movie theater to be surrounded by possibly infected, asymptomatic individuals for two hours? How many businesses will survive when "open" but only at 25% of their usual business level?

The people that will go will be the people not living in fear of a virus with a ).01%- 0.03% death rate, similar to the flu. Why don't those that are fearful stay home, wear their masks and gloves, disinfect their packages when they arrive, disinfect all their home surfaces, wash their hands all day and stay away from all people? Let the rest of us that are not fearful go back to work and send the kids back to school. That way those unafraid can live their lives and the community will develop some herd immunity - which will be far more effective than any vaccine that could be produced. We certainly don't have a hospital capacity problem which supposedly was the original goal of the lockdown.

One million confirmed cases in the USA with 60,000 dead. That is 6% dying horrible deaths. 6% of 300 million people will be 18 million. Pretending that everyone has already been infected is just pretending.

There are also other industries that need the same relief like the construction industry and agriculture.

To further drive home just how wrong "Not that risky" is, if we assume every single person in New York City was infected by the virus, that would give us an infection fatality rate of 10x the seasonal flu. The rampant misinformation being spread by the "open 'er up" people is shocking sometimes.
