Help Eliminate the Digital Divide for MV Children

Original post made by Christopher Chiang, North Bayshore, on Apr 3, 2020

One opportunity that came up in last night's Mountain View Whisman school board meeting is that students don't have laptops. Anyone have skills, time, and interest in being part of a volunteer effort to acquire volunteer laptops that can be sanitized, reformatted with Chrome OS and Comcast open WiFi and give them out free to MV children? It's hard for the district to take donated devices since federal laws require specific filters and settings, but we can mobilize MV residents to donate old computers and just give them to families. We can directly eliminate this final mile problem of just a few hundred families without devices. Email me if you would be interested: chiangwork at gmail.com. Possible workflow: 1- volunteer to have your front porch be a drop-off point for laptops. 2-Sterilize them 3-Install ChromeOS and Comcast wifi 4-Volunteers can pick up the laptops to then drop off at school lunch pick up spots.
