During the first .com book, as traffic began to get bad, companies encouraged their workers to flex their hours and/or work from home a couple days per week. Workers were also provided free transit passes for bus and caltrain.
Traffic became unbearable when the second .com companies started coming in in the early 2000s. Many have a core cultural pillar: You will be in the office all working hours. They feed them 3 meals and attend to any need that might draw them away from the office in order to keep butts in the chairs.
That forces everyone to hop in their cars and clog up all the roads

Now that we see it's easily done if they need to, we should insist the big companies begin programs to encourage workers to work from home some days in order to better the productivity and quality of life for all.

Traffic today was much better than before. I hope the companies continue to request workers to work from home.
