This is where you are in major error. You cannot be in business at all if you are not in compliance with building codes. So yes it can be called bad judgment when people invested in apartments under the premise of “Fear Of Missing Out” on quick cash schemes. They paid too high a price for the properties and then got “surprised” that they aren’t getting their Return on Investment. They believed in Real Estate agents as investment advisors. They WERE NOT licensed financial advisors, and they got people to overspend for the properties. Whose fault was that? You said:

Unfortunately, the REQUIRED compliance will be enforced eventually. You are simply upset that many people got conned into spending millions of dollars on properties that were not the values that they bought them for.

There are some basic economics the local D party needs to understand. If all you care about is the renters and not the landlords at all, you will get exactly what you are trying to avoid, less rental inventory. If you keep making things so landlord-unfriendly, they will just say to heck with it, rip it out, sell them as condos and be done with it.

Anyone in tech knows that competition drives down prices. By opposing measures that make things at least palatable for landlords, you will just drive them out and reduce supply. It needs to make business sense or else landlords will just get out of the market.

Well I say VOTE YES to get the trailers and motor home off the street. There are places these people can pay to park and provide sanitation plus Mountain View will provide low cost or free to those who can’t pay

Don't forget that Margaret Abe-Koga campaigned for the landlord's Measure V repeal (and even filmed a video for it: Web Link Then, she helped craft the "compromise" initiative in D, which the landlords have conveniently thrown their support behind.

They're engaging in some dirty politics, but we now have the chance to reject these initiatives AND the politicians supporting them: Measure D, RV ban, Margaret Abe-Koga, and Lisa Matichak. Vote NO on all of them!

The Mayor's position strongly in the 'rightsize pocket' of the Democratic suburbanite sub-party has finally gotten her in trouble. At least with the more moderate county-wide Democratic groups.

NO on D. Make it clear, make it known, make it's defeat part of your own political legacy. Put your money where your mouth is - contribute $, contribute time, or contribute both.

As far as Margaret Abe Koga, or any other registered “Democrat” public officials goes, it is about time you either act as a good “Democrat” or renounce your party affiliation.

If Margaret Abe Koga, Ellen Kamei, Chris Clark, and Lucas Rameriz do not want to actively reject Measure D politically, they must renounce their Democratic Party affiliation.

This would be expected if they were republicans and did not comply with the party’s endorsements.

Unfortunately, that cannot happen at least for 5 years given that SB330 now does not let the landlord do that. The reality now is that if you try to do that, the City is required to replace those units 1 to 1 regarding any new project.

The REAL problem was ever since 1965 when privatization of the housing market started, the private sector NEVER produced the PROMISED development. The private sector always claimed it was more cost effective to produce anything that was public funded. But that has proven to be a big failure. The “profit” model doesn’t provide any forces for efficiency. It only means that private businesses pass the cost of bad management onto the customers as long as they can. With the critical shortages of housing in the Country, that has been an abuse of the markets. You went on to say:

Why do you need to provide gifts to private housing businesses, the fact is they do not perform as promised, especially when Costa Hawkins was passed. The alternative is to shift to public funded and built housing. During the Baby Boom, that was the largest producer of housing. We DO NOT NEED private LANDLORDS. We should have public ones that are not required to achieve as much as a 20% profit on their operations. Since the median rent on Mountain View is $4200, that would result in a savings of as much as $800 a month.

It’s clear that the young people described in the article need some help with housing in this area and in this economy. One only needs to look around at all of the people living in vehicles to know that. Measure V is part of the solution — don’t weaken it! Vote No on Measure D!
