The link in this paragraph above is broken:

"PG&E set up a webpage with a map showing where power outages may occur, but the company's website went down Tuesday morning due to what the utility said was a "high volume of traffic" from people looking up information related to a possible public safety power shutoff."

The eighth word is map and is a link, but doesn't work (and I doubt it's only broken for me).

PG& E's website has been really, really, really slow all day.

Why should we be surprised that PG&E can't maintain a functioning website, when they can't maintain a modern electricity system?

Glad Mt. View isn't on that list.

PG&E is in federal bankruptcy which, according to a man of great and unmatched wisdom, is where the rich keep their assets and skip out on their debts and other obligations. Too bad the Kurds near Turkey cannot just declare bankruptcy.

This is a terrible inconvenience to so many people. These folks affected are supposed to throw out all their good food from the refrigerator, and try to live some kind of a life in the dark? Will folks have to have their pilot lights re-lit? PG&E needs to come up with a better solution to the problem.

Marilyn: This is an electrical outage, not gas.

Your pilot lights won't need re-lighting because normally they won't go out when only electricity is lost. Gas heat appliances that rely on constantly burning pilot lights are traditionally designed so that the pilot function is self-contained (i.e., no external electricity needed for it).

And don't throw out any food until it's spoiled. Any time your power goes out, a refrigerator can keep adequately cool for up to 24 hours or so if you open it as little as possible.

I hope people are paying attention to what our politicians are/will be doing soon. They want to ban natural gas for new home construction/remodels. At the state level they initially wanted to ban natural gas outright and give people a few years to convert all your natural gas appliances over to all electric ones. This mandate will surely come back again at a future date and will be law.

Natural gas is the most affordable way to heat your home, is the best for cooking, is most efficient for heating hot water. Yet, our politicians are using the so called "Green New Deal" to say we have to do this to save the planet.

It's your call people, pay attention to this and raise your voice if you object. Our city, Mtn.View, already has council members who want a ban on natural gas for new construction. It will happen soon!

My electric kettle is much better than a gas stove for heating water. As is a microwave. The newer stove-top elements also work great.

With the tremendous growth in renewables, with much more on the horizon, I see it being the most affordable, too.

Solar and tesla batteries are available today and solar is available with zero up front cost and a $65/month rental cost with no commitment. Charges the battery, grid isn't needed. Nobody should have to deal with this. Send PG&E a message: you don't need them anymore.

Go Solar! This seems like the answer to me.

First off, give your pathetic self's a break! If pg&e is a main concern for you then, get away for a few days that is if you the money to do so ,and if not then id suggest to stop complaining, suck it up and let them do their job! Also, if a food is a main concern as well then oh well buy new food!

I have never seen a 75 gallon "electric kettle or a microwave" big enough to hold a 75 gallon tank to heat water. Care to provide a link to such an animal?

In case you have not noticed, mine and your P.G&E bill as never gone down, only up. With the states mandate on this carbon credit scheme, I am paying $290 on average, every month just for electricity where I used to only pay $80.

Thank god I have natural gas for cooking-heating-hot water, or my bill would be at least $450 a month. Natural gas is the best for these.

Just so you know, the states electrical grid could not handle the increase load if natural gas was banned.

@Greg Coladonato: It wasn't just you. Now that demand has died down, I can verify that the link is correct, it's PG&E's site that was broken due to heavy web traffic.
