The district's own estimates are that this $84M project will "prevent potential damages in excess of $48 million (1999 value)." Even adjusted for inflation, the cost of this project is more than $10M above the benefit.

To get the amount MV is spending on the flood protection part you must first subtract the cost of the new ball fields, which will be used for generations of kids little league games.

Sadly, this is another example of the city ignoring the cost-benefit equation when pursuing massive projects. And since flood insurance is something that homeowners can purchase, when necessary, why would the city be involved in this pie-in-the-sky project? I guess the council members wanted to be able to put their names on a plaque.

Some comments say the city is paying. Nothing could be further from the truth. SCVWD is not part of the city. SCVWD has been called "The Golden Spigot" for their profligate spending.

It is clear that they must have found bodies of Native Americans. Most Likely Descendants are brought in to rebury the bodies. Typically it takes long times to find out who is the Most Likely Descendant as tribes fight to get the money associated with the work.

From projects I have done, this grinds all work a halt but the money clock for the rest of the project still runs.

I would say that No kidding comments would be correct if contractor price have been huge due to all the fires up North. At our job site, people are always poaching our subcontractors to work in Santa Rosa or Paradise.
