Deflecting the blame to Caltrans seems sketchy to me. The crash was caused by the car not following the road. Maybe this is Tesla's fault. Maybe this is the driver's fault. Maybe the car misjudged the curve. Maybe the car was going too fast for conditions (going around a curve at over the speed limit). Blame on Caltrans is well down on the list of problems.

So the driver's survivors want money and Tesla does not want to pay for its deficient "auto-pilot." That leaves the public to pay? Some insurance company? Governments are not usually liable for poor road maintenance. It takes time to repair crash sites - especially with all of the EARLY RETIREMENT OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEES at public expense. Retired public employees do not work at their former jobs - except when they can arrange a double-dip. Report on that. Meanwhile, here is a thought: do not trust your life to an "auto-pilot" and try not to crash.
