Phone scammers pose as cops in Mountain View calls

A Mountain View employee reported two phone scams in which people fraudulently claiming to be law enforcement officials demanded money, according to police.

Telling people not to answer the phone at work is silly. Most phone calls that retail businesses receive from legitimate customers are unknown phone numbers.

Knowing that no legitimate organization does this sort of phone contacting, I answer and play with the people on the other end.

My favorite is when the "IRS" or "SS administration" requires you to go to Best Buy and purchase hundreds of dollars of iTunes gift cards for payment.
