Hyatt Centric leads race to open new hotels in Mountain View

Original post made on Jul 26, 2019

Mountain View has long lacked sufficient hotel space, but that could soon be changing. Eight new hotels are in the process of opening across the city, bringing about 1,200 more rooms.

What hotel is slated to open on Miramonte? Is there more info on this somewhere? Miramonte is almost exclusively residential (with the exception of a private elementary school, among a few other small businesses.) Seems like a bad idea.

@hotel? Miramonte runs as far as El Camino, and includes the AAA building and small strip mall with the auto shop, Baskin Robbins, etc. That parcel at the end of Miramonte is decidedly non-residential.

On the other hand, it would be mind-bogglingly nuts if someone proposed one at (say) the corner of Miramonte and Cuesta...

@ hotel?

I'm not sure what hotel brand is opening off Miramonte, and it's possible that hasn't been determined yet.

All the current information about the hotels that are slated for opening can be found on the city's monthly planning update: Web Link

@ Mark Noack, thanks for the link. Looks like the proposed project is at Miramonte and el Camino, where the auto shop currently is.

I'd be interested to know how much tax revenue does the city get from hotels currently, and how much is projected from the new hotels?

I also wonder how doubling the supply of real hotels might affect the market for AirBNB rentals in the city, which seemed to indicate some unmet demand for hotel accommodations. Maybe the new hotels will free up a bit of housing.

Being able to get $600 per night during the week, I can see why companies want to open up Hotels in this area. The weekday rates they get from business travelers is insane.
It drops to $200 per night on Fri/Sat. Nutz!
