Due to it's lack of acceptable service for bikes and after a friend got her bike stolen because she could not sit in an area to watch it, I decided to go 100% with the bike and quit CalTrain. I used to have to ride when CalTrian would bump me due to lack of room anyway, so now, though it takes a bit longer, the commute time is dependable. It was not like that w/ CalTrain.
Cyclists cannot depend on it.

"Cyclists cannot depend on it."

I haven't had those problems, or been able to work around them. Works better than a lot of communities where I've tried public transit. Yes, still needs improving.

Sorry to hear that.

Cyclists starting from SF have no issue with being bumped because the cars are empty. Try getting on in Palo Alto or Mountain View, it's a whole 'nother world.
You end up being late a lot.
Going home is not as bad as mornings. Starting from SF the cars are always empty so no bumping would be expected.

Caltrain always talks about commute service, but one of it's greatest failings is it's midday service, claiming that ridership is too low to sustain a schedule that includes a train every 15 minutes. But, who wants to plan on taking a train that only operates every hour? If you miss it, you're stuck. Lets add some non-commute trains so people can move around all day and evening!

The nice thing about Caltrain is their excellent ability to predict their performance
