The bill would prohibit the towing of vehicles with 5 or more parking tickets, wouldn't allow vehicles with unpaid parking tickets to be immobilized with a "boot" and in cases where towing is allowed could no longer be sold to cover costs. Cities (hence the taxpayers) would be on the hook for towing and storage fees. Cities will be kneecapped, towing will cease and permit parking programs gutted.
Another provision would not allow for towing after 72 hours. Instead, a 10 notice would need to be posted first after the 72 hour violation is posted and of course the city pays for forever storage.
Redwood City and League of California oppose this nonsense. Mark Noack needs to shine a light on our city council. This bill would allow anyone to park near transit, avoiding city lot fees or Cal-train lot fees for up to 13 days of contiguous city street parking without a ticket. Lost revenue is just the beginning. Sleeping on city streets will become the norm in Mountain View.
