The editorial attacked by Council Members raised issues not addressed and pointed to the plain truth that the Mountain View city government has spent years adding to the imbalance of jobs to housing in the city and the region. The city government's preoccupation with short-term revenue and, for some, higher housing "value" has created a mess of problems and a backlash by the State Legislature.

The city has done plenty to Increase housing. Great job.

Wrong. How about fast tracking housing projects submitted by builders instead of making them go through the hoops as if we weren't in a housing crisis. Figure out a proper process to bring more housing and then get out of the way.

Margaret and Lisa are trying to take credit for the work of the previous council. Both were very much vehemently against housing in the North Bayshore area before it passed. Margaret in the past 2 years tried every conceivable trick to optically make it look as if she wanted more housing (or more affordable housing), but the consequences of her ideas, if implemented, would have made it commercially nonviable to build anything, thus killing housing in that area. Lisa, a wolf in sheep's clothing, would gladly give up making any concession for nearly anything new in the East Whisman area. She gets away with it for sounding "concerned" about anything remotely close to progressive policies.

And the "compassion" of Mountain View is being completely being undermined by the both of them as they work overtime to ban those who can't quite make enough to continue to live in our area and are forced into cheaper alternatives. Their legacy will be a lawsuit against the City that will make national news and bring embarrassment and great expense to this Human Rights City.

One can pray that Lucas, John, Chris, Ellen and Allison will hold tight and keep those two at bay. Dark days in Mountain View, indeed.

MV has less then 2% of total SFBA population. It funny to see how people are not happy that MV cannot solve SFBA housing crisis.

To me it is very simple.

These people are counting Chickens before they are hatched. They said:

“First, the council adopted an award-winning precise plan that transforms a suburban office park into complete neighborhoods, allowing up to 9,850 new housing units with 20% designated as affordable housing. And we are poised to adopt another plan for East Whisman, making 5,000 more units possible. We have approved 4,400 new housing units since 2014, and another 3,100 are currently under review.”

That’s a plan, it hasn’t even gotten to the starting stage, and most likely never will. WHAT AWARD DID THIS PLAN GET? So far no ACTION. Please provide us proof of ACTION you went on to say:

“over 200 affordable units were approved just this month; and more than 600 additional affordable housing units are currently in various stages of planning.”

That’s planning, not completed building. Again no ACTION.

To me this is nothing but empty promises. Mayor Lisa Matichak and Vice Mayor Margaret Abe-Koga, you haven’t produced anything like your claims yet. We have to deal with what we have, which is still a serious housing problem in Mountain View.

They say Mountain View is not acting irresponsibly because they have added some housing. Great. At the current time Mountain View has jobs for 100,000+ workers. The entire Bay Area has 2.5 million workers. Mountain View has 4% of the jobs. If the stat about the land mass being 2% of the Bay Area is accurate, the mountain View has 200% of the number of jobs that it should have. But wait, That's now. Google is adding tens of thousands of new jobs. This will be way above the Bay Area increase overall. So Moutain View will soon have 250% of the number of jobs that it should, based on its share of the land mass. And housing? Mountain View will not even have an equal share of the housing in the Bay area even with all this added housing. So Mountain View has 50% of the housing that it should based on land mass and 250% of the jobs by the same measure.

Wake up Lisa and Margaret.

Nice how all the comments on this story are in italics. The whole issue is an afterthought. Sad.

Still no comment regarding the actual housing VERSUS the PLANNED housing?

The city governments ego makes promises the city cannot achieve.

The "Google" plan is still not done. It has not broken any ground.

To me, the city cannot get away with claiming to improve affordable housing by simply saying plans are approved or in the works.

NO MORE DELAYS AND NO MORE TALKING.

Either report the work being actuallly worked on only, or don't make any claims at all.

You know if you broke the vase or the window, you cannot claim you did anything special when you repaired or replaced it.

This is what the City Council of mountain View is trying to get away with.

The City deserves better.
