County supervisors OK $5M more to help victims of gender-based violence

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to earmark $5 million in annual, ongoing funding to help survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.

As a male sexually assaulted as a child by a male, I find the sequestration of funds specifically for “gender based” violence repugnant. How about just providing services for victims of violence, period, regardless of gender? This mentality contributes to the shaming and dramatically lower reporting rates of male victims. Pull your heads out of the sand.
