I am a NIMBY.
Unless and until resources can be identified to support an influx of additional masses, there should be no mass construction. Where will the electricity, water, garbage disposal and storage and infrastructure be found? How much gridlock is acceptable? How many sardines can you fit in a can?
Look to Las Vegas to see carefully planned growth. The infrastructure was built before the masses of people arrived.

I warned about a re-write of last year's SB 827 in the state ballot pamphlet for last November's election rebuttal to argument in favor of Proposition 1). It was obvious that the high-tech firms would be back with their plan to rezone California to accommodate their current and planned work force. Have a single- family home? Under SB 50, developers will be able to buy land next door to you (maybe your neighbor's house or lot) and erect 4-8 story condos or apartments with virually no onsite parking. The new residents will have a view of your backyard and will park near or blocking your driveway. This year's bill includes provisions to cut various interest groups in on the deal. Many newspapers in California have failed to accurately report the bill's provisions. Ambitious politicians have been lined up to tout the bill. And here we are one day from the first "housing committee" hearing on the bill chaired by its chief author: Scott Wiener of San Francisco. Some version of SB 50 probably will pass the Legislature and be signed into law. Then, as I stated last year, local government leaders will need to immediately launch a statewide REFERENDUM PETITION drive to suspend the law pending a statewide vote next year. The developers and tech companies would bankroll the opposition to the bill's repeal (by referendum). Most Californians are so inactive politically that big money may well TRUMP commonsense and honesty.

Our poster "YIMBY" may not know what YIMBY stands for: "Yes in my backyard." It is a corporate group pretending to be real people with backyards they want to share with the world!

It's easier for you guys paint your opposition as Developers and Corporations because it makes for a more palatable villain to rally against vs a bunch of late 20s/early 30s Millennials renting bedrooms in a shared single-family homes because there aren't enough apartments or condos for us.
