LAHS 30 acres packed with 2500 kids; MVHS spreads 2000 over 40 acres without contiguous neighbors.

65 decibels once a week would "ruin your life"? Such a person's life sounds pitiable if it could be ruined by that. We hear it once a week already from St Francis, it hardly ruins our life.

The idea of bringing MVHS up to par with the other high schools in the area wrt field lights is LONG overdue. If it were put up to a city wide vote, I can't imagine any scenario where it would lose. It's a massively good idea for now and future generations of students and it's a shame that the few vocal opponents in the immediate neighborhood have held up this with their NIMBY-ism.
Time to get things done!

This doesn't sound like much of a compromise to me. The school gets everything it wants and the neighbors have to live with it. The rules used by the Fremont Union High School district are much more considerate of the neighbors. MVLA wants light use is permitted EVERY weeknight until 8:30pm and an unlimited number of sports to have half of their season's games under the lights without time restrictions. I don't see how they could use them much more for sports.
The FUHSD rules are like this:
To mitigate the significant impact of noise, the board voted to go with reduced light usage at the fields. At Monta Vista from August until mid-November, the lights will be on until 6:30 p.m. two nights a week, until 8:30 p.m. two more nights a week and will never be in use on Sundays. Lights can be used until 10:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, up to six nights a year.
From mid-November through the end of March, lights can be used Monday to Friday only until 6:30 p.m. For up to six nights a year, the lights can be on until 7:30 p.m. There will be no lights on from April to late-August. The lighting plan for Lynbrook is similar.
When people enamored of the idea of having lights talk about the other schools in the area having lights, they NEVER mention the REASONABLE limits that have been sete by these schools. You can see the impact on neighbors from the FUHSD rules would be about 10-20% of the impact from the completely unsupportable usage rules mentioned here from MVLA. The only thing good about the MVLA proposal is that it admits they need some limits, where before they just wanted lights and no rules at all.

The people living near the MVLA high schools are asking for MVLA to treat them like other school districts who have lights (FUHSD, Novato and San Mateo) treat their neighbors. That's not NIMBYism, it's just fair.
