ALL IS MY MY PERSONAL AND MEDICALLY INFORMED OPINION (FOR OBVIOUS LEGAL REASONS).

My last two sports-related orthopedic surgeries at El Camino's ambulatory surgical center were below zero stars on a scale of 1 to 10 --- that is to say unbelievably unprofessional and insultingly BAD. The admitting and surgery nurses were hostile, the operating room staff were highly competent, but the recovery room nurses were a couple of uselessly destructive, burned out, uncaring monsters who didn't give a damn about me or the rest of their patients. They pumped me (and them?) full of drugs to dope me (us?) into submission, and they just watched soap operas on TV rather than tending to their patients; i.e. DOING THEIR SWORN JOBS!!! They released us far earlier than medically appropriate just so they could leave on time. Having once worked in a highly competent and moral hospital, htey were transferred into dead end jobs and allowed to clock time so they could max out their pensions and retire early without causing nurses' union problems --- at taxpayers' expense of course.

El Camino hospital, IMHO, is grossly incompetent and its upper and middle management must be purged of incompetent and self-interested bureaucrats. There is a long history of labor wars between the "hospital" and its staff, nurses, and even anesthesiologists that has created a toxic work atmosphere.

Since then, I've gone to Waverly Surgical Center and to Stanford Hospital. Why? Both of my superb surgeons deserted El Camino in disgust (IMHO again) for far better managed, competent, and pleasant surgical centers. Personally, I'd recommend Waverly. Stanford is overwhelmed with ambulatory surgery patients right now.
