These lawsuits are absurd, they're just opportunistic.

The problem is that these schools always, anyway, reject more applicants than they admit. OK, an opportunistic lawsuit might seek to "punish" the schools for the shenanigans that did happen (and thus reward the suing lawyers, not the claimant class -- since large "class action" suits routinely produce only token pay-outs per person). But it's absurd to imagine that a given unsuccessful applicant lost out on admission because of the corrupt admits that did occur. There were only a handful of those, compared to probably tens of thousands of unsuccessful applicants to the same set of schools.

These lawsuits were inevitable given the outrageous conduct of the wealthy parents and the people they bribed to get their kids into prestigious schools. I am a single mother of three and with sweat, tears, prayers and financial aid, I was able to put all three of my children thru college and two of them have advanced degrees in their fields. I busted my tail to get and keep those kids in college and had nothing left for retirement after it was all done. I am so angry that all these cheats had to do was write a check and the greedy people at these "prestigious" schools couldn't wait to cash them, while I was struggling, eating hot dogs and oatmeal to pay college expenses. They deserve severe punishment and I hope everybody who can sues their butts off.

I hope these ridiculous, frivolous lawsuits are thrown out before they cost the taxpayers a dime. These kids/parents are akin to looters during a riot, soulless people trying to cash in on an “opportunity” while decrying the immorality of others.

The great majority of students are rejected from top schools so their odds weren’t changed by the admission of a handful of undeserving students. And if those kids couldn’t even get in to University of San Diego or UT Austin they were certainly not Stanford, Yale or UCLA material.

What all the cheating parents did was terrible. But this lawsuit is not going anywhere. There is no way to prove that a given individual lost a spot as a result. And on the other claim, there is zero ways to show damages to claim that the degrees have been devalued. As bad as this issue was, the number of people involved is miniscule compared to the number applying and accepted every year.

I hope all the people involved in the scam get prosecuted. But the lawsuit is a waste of time.
