I imagine we can expect less occurrences of cars being driven right through buildings and houses and coffee shops and such.

Oh, and on that note, if you have banking at the Wells Fargo in DT Los Altos today, you'll probably want to call first to see if they're open...pun intended! :)

I have not driven for the last 10 or so years and no longer have a driver license; my wife does not like to drive and does not do very much of it; and, we would both welcome the opportunity to use a driverless vehicle.

We wish Waymo good and save driverless driving in their current test, hopefully culminating in the commercial offer of the use of one of their cars at a reasonably low cost.

It's not clear to me whether the best approach is to offer Waymo cars as an alternative to taxis, Uber, Lyft, SuperShuttle, VTA buses, and other more or less shared-ride vehicles at a per-call/per-ride fee or as a purchased alternative to our current, *very* lightly used car. But, I am very much looking forward to the day when driverless cars, Waymo and other, are readily available to the general public.

“Community forum,” is that like a Christmas forum, but less offensive?

I’m not sure what they want from residents. I’d be delighted for them to take their beta testing someplace else. I’ll cry NIMBY on this one.

They don't always recognize left turn green lights. This results in much stagnation of traffic behind them in their wake. I saw it happen myself twice in a week at Edith and Foothill, just the past week.

Will these cars be obvious when they are empty. It concerns me that in an emergency situation, a car over a cliff, a car in an inferno, that somebody might put their own life at risk to rescue an occupant in an empty car!

Who will load my bags in the car?

"Who will load my bags in the car?"

The stores have people that will help if you ask the cashier, otherwise, I'd love to assist you with loading your groceries. You're not alone in this community, just ask :)

Does anyone know if we need to sign up for the event?

I love this idea. No more DUI's and what happens if I pass out in the car on the way home from too much drinking...will a robot pick me off the back seat??? LOL>>>>

Google rules the World and Mountain View City council wants them to replace all the old, dumb, low IQ legacy residents with Google high tech workers so they can really increase taxes and fatten their pension plans off those rich dollars!

So if I get into an accident with a driverless Waymo, and it's the driverless' fault, who do I yell at for hitting my car?

Has a WAYMO ever struck another vehicle, while in auto-mode, where the other driver was not at fault?

I can't be sure, but I'm not sure it's ever happened, ever...in how many millions of miles driven? Wow.

There was a low speed incident with a municipal bus a few years ago, but frankly, it sounded like the bus was passing unsafely. It was a bit of a grey area, haven't seen the official "at fault" report.

Something inconclusive happened a few years ago that I can't find any link on.
Or
No waymo car has ever been at fault of running into something when in auto ode.

Either way, this is why I am not concerned in the least. Don't fret much about being struck by lightning either.

The DMV's regulations mention a communication link to a remote operator....If a human has to be involved even from a remote location why is it not considered a Disengagement? How frequent are these remote operators involved in?

For those keeping score and wondering what happened at Ranch Starbucks in Los Altos, a human driver took out the support pole for the roof when "The driver mistakenly pressed her gas pedal instead of the brake when pulling into a parking space, according to Los Altos Police"

That's on top of the driver who plowed her car through the Wells Fargo back in downtown earlier this week.

Can we please fast track the WAYMOs? Public safety is at stake because of so many horrible drivers behind the controls of deadly machinery.

Overall, it was a good meeting. I would have preferred more time for the presentation and formal Q&A parts of the meeting. But it was nice that they continued an informal Q&A time with some of the Waymo staff for those who weren't interested in the "show and tell" time that followed.
