Ah, 1992. When a Christmas Tree Lighting was still a Christmas Tree Lighting. Before it became a Community Tree Lighting.

Shame on you, Mountain View Voice. Don't you realize you need trigger warnings for the Boomers for anything holiday related. They get so offended, they'll need their safe spaces. Look at MV Resident above!

Interesting history. Thanks for sharing it with those of us who weren't aware of it. We are so lucky to have community newspapers like the MV Voice and PA Weekly. I appreciate the commitment of people like Kate Wakerly, Carol Torgrimson, Bill Johnson and the hard-working newspaper staff members who strive to bring us quality coverage that adheres to journalism's professional code of ethics. Congratulations and thank you!

I too appreciate this local publication. I just wish it would represent a broader perspective, it’s extremely one-sided.

Mr Johnson, if one offered to contribute high quality journalism for free would you be willing to publish?

Mountain View Voice publishers, please please please take mvresident2003 up on this offer. It'll be the most entertaining section of your paper by far. Our very own cranky Boomer corner.

Too bad the voice chose to give up their editorial freedom and journalistic integrity to become part of Bill johnson for profit propoganda empire.

The Palo Alto Weekly has a sports section. Tonight (Saturday) I am adding sports to the Mountain View Voice. St. Francis of MV is great in sports - boys and girls. In football this year, St. Francis won its league championship - and beat every opponent except De La Salle of Concord that has not lost to a NorCal opponent in football since 1991. To start the season, St. Francis nipped Valley Christian of San Jose 7-3 - the only non-Catholic school in the West Valley Catholic League. The rematch was tonight for the Central Coast Section championship in the toughest division in this year's multi-division playoffs. Valley Christian scored on a touchdown in the fourth quarter to tie the game 17-17. In overtime, each team gets a possession starting at the opponent's 10-yard line. VC scored a TD to go up 24-17 but with its turn, SF tied the game at 24-24. I got this online at Maxpreps which has live reports from volunteer "reporters" for each side. In the second OT, St. Francis went first and scored a TD. But the extra-point kick was partially blocked - no good. SF 30 - VC 24. Next VC got its turn from the SF 10. VC scored a TD to tie the game at 30-30. VC then lined up to kick the winning extra-point. Kick MADE, Valley Christian won 31-30. Congrats to them. But here is the kicker: The winning point-after-touchdown (PAT) was kicked by "LUCAS RAMINEZ." No kidding. The guy was just elected to the Mountain View City Council and he kicks the extra point that carries Valley Christian of San Jose over St. Francis of Mountain View. Recall - anyone?

I wonder now that the facts about football's brain damaging aspects are known, how this will affect the usual private school football powerhouses. I assume parents are sending their kids to these schools in order to better their minds. The permanent brain damage the game causes seems counter to that goal.

Correction: In 2018 it is a Comminity Tree Lighting Celebration. Not a Ceremony, as it was called in the dark ages of 1992. I didn’t mean to make anyone feel unsafe with talk of ceremonies.

I love tree lighting night! Seems like everyone comes out even if it's just to walk around and enjoy the good vibes of all the holidays
